Project overview
WSDOT contractor crews, Granite Construction Inc., replaced several of the most damaged concrete panels on southbound Interstate 5 between Ridgefield and the I-5/I-205 split.
This section of I-5 is made up of 8,400 concrete panels. Hundreds of which have cracked, settled and ultimately must be replaced. These panels were originally installed 50-70 years ago and are beyond repair. Additional factors like extreme weather and increased traffic volumes only worsen the roadways already long overdue for replacement. Repairing and replacing damaged and cracked concrete panels extends the useful life of the roadway while providing a level, even driving surface. Additional concrete panel replacement work will be scheduled for years to come to address aging and wear and tear on I-5 throughout Southwest Washington.
