Holiday weekend travel

View holiday travel charts for the four routes that historically see the most holiday traffic congestion and do not have other alternative route options.

Holiday travel charts are provided for the four routes that historically see the most holiday traffic congestion and do not have other alternative route options:

  • I-5 Lacey to Tacoma
  • I-90 North Bend to Cle Elum
  • US 2 between Skykomish and Stevens Pass
  • I-5 at the U.S.-Canada border.

WSDOT provides holiday weekend travel charts every year for the following holidays:

  • Memorial Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving

Christmas and Fourth of July charts are only produced when those holidays land on a three-day weekend.

No Fourth of July travel charts 2025

WSDOT will not publish Fourth of July holiday travel charts in 2025 due to a lack of available historical hourly vehicle volume data. The last time July 4 fell on a Friday was more than 10 years ago, and that data has since been deleted under state retention policies. Slow down – lives are on the line.

Excessive speed was a top cause of work zone collisions in 2024.

Phone down, eyes up.

Work zones need our undivided attention.

It's in EVERYONE’S best interest.

96% of people hurt in work zones are drivers, their passengers or passing pedestrians, not just our road crews.
