SR 509 Expressway

As part of the Puget Sound Gateway Program, the SR 509 Expressway expands the current SR 509 with a new four-lane expressway connecting I-5 to SR 509 near SEA Airport. Tolling will help fund $180 million of the total $2.83 billion Puget Sound Gateway Program budget.
How to pay
You have two options to pay a toll on the SR 509 Expressway
- Good To Go! account: With a Good To Go! account and pass installed in your vehicle, you pay the lowest toll rate and don't have to worry about waiting for a bill to arrive in the mail. Learn more about Good To Go! accounts and passes.
- Pay By Mail: If you don't have a Good To Go! account and you use the expressway, we’ll take a picture of your license plate and mail a bill to the address on your vehicle registration with the Department of Licensing. The Pay By Mail toll rate is $2 higher than the Good To Go! pass rate
Toll rates
When tolling begins in fall 2025, the SR 509 Expressway toll rates will change based on time of day and direction of travel, with lower toll rates on nights and off-peak periods. Tolls are collected on both directions on the expressway.
Drivers who choose to register their license plate on a Good To Go! account without a pass, called Pay By Plate, pay an extra 25 cents per trip on top of the Good To Go! pass rate.

Exemptions
All vehicles must pay a toll except for emergency vehicles, transit and qualifying exempt vehicles. Carpools and motorcycles pay tolls just like all other personal vehicles. Visit our exemption and discounts page to learn more or to apply for an exemption.
