21-23 SWR Regionwide Bridges Concrete Deck Patching - Complete June 2023

Project overview

Between summer 2022 and 2023, WSDOT's contractor, Granite Construction Company, began work on a pilot program to rehabilitate the concrete decks of several bridges throughout southwest Washington. Crews removed all non-cement patches and replaced them with cement material, extending the useful life of the bridges until future bridge deck rehabilitation projects could fully address each bridge structure's individual needs.

What to expect

During construction, contractor crews had around-the-clock lane closures in place along the bridge decks, to perform bridge deck patching work.

In summer 2022, Granite Construction Company rehabilitated the concrete decks along several bridges throughout the Southwest Region and one bridge in South Central Region by patching. The intention was to remove all non-cementitious patches and replace them with new cementitious material, extending the life of the bridge structures until future deck rehabilitation projects could better address each bridge’s individual needs.

The below list of bridges received bridge deck maintenance and patching with non-cementitious materials. Overtime, due to wear and tear from traffic and because of weather, the bridge deck patching had eroded and was in need of replacement. Once this project was complete, travelers experienced a smoother ride and the structural integrity of the bridge decks will be improved.
