Project overview
The Anacortes Ferry Terminal has provided a gateway to the San Juan Islands and Sidney B.C. for more than 50 years with only minor changes made to the terminal. Washington State Ferries (WSF) plans on updating all four Anacortes Ferry Terminal tollbooths to better serve the ferry customers who use them year-round. The terminal will be fully operational during construction.
What to expect
The new toll plaza with its four new tollbooths, including one ADA-accessible booth, is now open. A lighted metal and cedar canopy provides protection from the elements.
The old tollbooths have been demolished, and crews are removing the concrete pads beneath them.

Project benefits
- Replaces the existing toll plaza with four new tollbooths. The new tollbooths will replace the current ones that are 15 years beyond their replacement timeline.
- Adds a dedicated ADA accessible tollbooth, including an ADA compliant restroom within the toll plaza.
- Adds storage, technology connections, and an employee restroom to make the tollbooths easier for WSF employees to operate in for extended periods of time.
- Adds a canopy to cover transaction areas at each booth. A canopy cover will protect customers and employees from inclement weather during transactions.
- Uses cedar in the overall functionality, and similar design elements to the Mukilteo Terminal for a more attractive look. Native plants will also be planted around the new buildings.
