Project overview
This intersection has been identified by the I2 Safety Subprogram as one that should be targeted in order to reduce the frequency and intensity of vehicular collisions. This project triggered a Complete Streets analysis to incorporate pedestrian facilities into the preferred alternative and design.
What to expect
The project is in its pre-design phase, which helps identify, select and start the design of the necessary Complete Streets strategies that will need to be implemented as part of a paving project for this corridor. The addition of these strategies to the roundabout project seeks to improve the existing and/or future active-transportation environment along and across the project corridor.
Pre-design is expected to be completed in the winter of 2026, with full design starting in the summer of 2026. This project will be delivered using the Design-Bid-Build process, with construction anticipated to start in the summer of 2028. This schedule is considered preliminary and may change depending on the pre-design phase and its results.
This is a vicinity map of SR 28 in Ephrata, showing the site of a future roundabout, near the intersection with Alder Street. The yellow dot represents the site of the future roundabout, and the red lines represent the Ephrata city limits.
This project was selected through the WSDOT I2 Safety Improvement Subprogram. Constructing a roundabout will reduce the frequency and severity of collisions. Maintenance and upkeep of a roundabout is also cheaper than other forms of intersection control.
