I-90 Vantage Bridge – Replace Bridge Deck and Special Repairs

Project overview

This project replaces the existing bridge deck on the I-90 Vantage Bridge to maintain the structural integrity, ensure the safety of the highway and extend the life of the bridge. The Vantage Bridge was built in 1962 and the last time the bridge received a major overhaul was in 1982.

What to expect

During the summer of 2024, WSDOT and contractor crews made progress by constructing a platform along the entire length of the bridge, enabling work beneath the span. They completed 80% of the repairs to the bridge piers and replaced 60 concrete panels. All lanes are open for the winter, with no restrictions.

All four lanes of the Vantage Bridge will be open during busy summer holidays:

  • Memorial Day: Friday, May 23 – Sunday, June 1
  • Fourth of July: Thursday, July 3 – Tuesday, July 8
  • Labor Day: Thursday, Aug. 28 – Tuesday, Sept. 2

The bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction on weekdays (Monday through Friday) and all lanes will be open on Saturdays and Sundays through July 8. Starting Wednesday, July 9, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction seven days a week, except for Labor Day weekend, until the project wraps up for the season in November.

Travelers will experience long delays eastbound on Fridays and westbound on Sundays and are encouraged to choose alternate routes.

Work to replace the I-90 Vantage bridge started spring 2024.
