SR 14 - E of Bingen – Port of Klickitat Access Improvements

Project overview

This project will improve safety and connectivity between Bingen Point, the Port of Klickitat and State Route 14 in Klickitat County. Currently, travelers and emergency responders must use a railroad crossing on Steuben Street (SR 14) to access the port and Bingen Point. Passing trains often block this crossing, creating long backups and slowing emergency response times.

As Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway builds a new rail bridge, contractor crews from Kerr Contractors Oregon will construct Juniper Street, a road that will pass under the tracks. The project also adds a roundabout at SR 14 and Elm Street to improve safety and traffic flow. The roundabout will feature a historic pond boat honoring the region’s timber heritage.

  • Safety -  Reduce the likelihood of collisions at rail crossings; ensure access to Bingen Point by emergency responders.
  • Economic - Meet the needs of future area development.

Once complete in late 2026, the new underpass will let traffic move without waiting for trains, making travel safer and more reliable.
