SR 169 Green River Bridge - Emergency

Project overview

Repairs are complete on the SR 169 Green River Dan Evans Bridge; the bridge reopened Oct. 14, 2025.

During a scheduled inspection on Aug. 4, 2025, bridge preservation engineers found cracking and advanced corrosion on the stringers beneath the northbound and southbound lanes of the SR 169 Green River Bridge, about two miles south of Black Diamond. The bridge was reduced to one lane of alternating traffic, then closed for permanent repairs Sept. 15.

To restore the bridge to its regular configuration of one lane in each direction, we repaired the worn steel stringers that support the deck of this 93-year-old bridge.

What to expect

This work is complete.

The SR 169 Green River Dan Evans Bridge reopened to all traffic Oct. 14, 2025. The bridge closed Sept. 15, 2025 for repairs, with detours for passenger and commercial vehicles.

The SR 169 Green River Dan Evans Bridge was built in 1932 and carries about 11,400 vehicles daily. It is one of 315 WSDOT-owned bridges that are at least 80 years old. The bridge was inspected in May 2025. During a follow-up inspection in August 2025, bridge preservation engineers determined the bridge should be reduced to a single lane of alternating traffic.

WSDOT bridges are inspected on a two-year cycle. A bridge is expected to have a service life of 75 years based on current standards. The average age of state-owned vehicular bridges is 51 years.
