New weight restrictions for SR 165 Carbon River/Fairfax Bridge

SR 165 Carbon River Bridge inspections have resulted in state bridge engineers lowering the weight restriction on the bridge to 8 tons. This means vehicles over 16,000 pounds or 8 tons are not allowed to cross the 103-year-old bridge.

New US 101 Elwha River bridge opens to traffic

PORT ANGELES – Now that the first vehicles have crossed its span, a project almost eight years in the making can be crossed off the list: The long-awaited new bridge over the Elwha River on US 101 is now open to traffic.

Slow down on ice and snow.

It's easier to skid or lose control traveling at higher speeds. Give yourself more time to stop.

Carry chains, practice installing them.

Winter conditions could mean chains are required on your route. Practice putting them on your vehicle ahead of time.

Pack your winter car kit.

Carry extra supplies like warm clothing, ice scraper and brush, jumper cables and other emergency items.
